I just got back from Zoetermeer to see Yellowjackets play. What a great show! Only familiar tunes, not strange as I have all Yellowjackets CDs... Felix Pastorius played the bass. I've never seen or heard him play before. My initial impression was he was a bit shy to play and make himself heard, apprehensive perhaps. Bob Mintzer explained that it was only his 6th day with Yellowjackets and that the music "is a bit more than a blues in F"... Aha, that explains a lot and why he was playing off sheet music! As the show progressed Felix got more confident and showed he's an excellent bass player. Inevitably he'll be compared to his famous father. I say Felix has a style of his own. I really enjoyed to see Will Kennedy play again with the 'jackets, what a fabulous drummer!
I bought the ticket months ago but coming wednesday it's finally there: Yellowjackets will play at De Boerderij in Zoetermeer. Really looking forward to this one. I've seen Yellowjackets play live a number of times. This time however will be the first time without Jimmy Haslip. Jimmy has taken a year off. Filling in his place will be Felix Pastorius. Yep!
